Haddon Township was incorporated in 1865, and several of its neighbors, including Haddonfield, Collingswood, Haddon Heights, Audubon and Oaklyn, were later carved out of it. European settlers first arrived along Newton Creek in 1681. The township's downtown is known as Westmont, home of the Ritz Theatre, a 1927 Colonial Revival vaudeville house that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
